Dr Beth George
DClinPsych., BSc. (Hons)

Clinical Psychologist
I’m Beth George, a clinical psychologist with over 20 year’s experience working in the NHS. I have worked in a variety of settings including both physical health and mental health, inpatient and outpatient, and forensic, acute, secondary care services and tertiary (specialist) services. I have worked with individuals across the lifespan and have experience of supporting families/carers. I provide evidence-based psychological therapy to adults and adolescents. I have trained in a range of therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Compassion
Focused Therapy (CFT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Movement. My work is also informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Systemic Approaches. I believe it is important to work collaboratively and therefore we can work together using an integrated approach as required to meet your needs.
My experience
My current NHS role is in Southampton General Hospital where I work part-time within a large Clinical Health Psychology Department supporting individuals across the lifespan with both mental health and physical health conditions within a medical context, as well as working with the medical team to provide holistic care. Prior to this, I have worked in Royal
Berkshire Hospital, Psychiatric Rehabilitation services in Southeast London and Early Intervention for Psychosis (EIP) in Kent. This breadth of experience enables me to work with a wide range of clients within my private practice.
I aim to work collaboratively to help you develop an understanding about how your difficulties have developed and are maintained by creating a shared formulation. This is the foundation of our work and will focus on what matters most to you. Our formulation will take into account the ‘system’ around you, that is relationships, situations and the context. I aim to work alongside you to understand your needs and work with you in a meaningful way towards achieving your therapy goals. These might not be what the others have told you but based on your experience and individual circumstances. In order to do this I aim to create a
safe and collaborative therapeutic relationship in which you can feel supported to explore your difficulties and to discover new ways to view and manage those. I am very interested in the link between our body and mind and how our how bodies present how we feel, especially with trauma. I aim to provide holistic care and I have a genuine interest in people, their lives, history, culture, faith, neurodiversity etc. Ingratiating
and understanding the different parts of us can form a core area of our work and help you
to achieve your goals.
