Dr Caroline Clarke
BSc., MSc., DClinPsych.
Clinical Psychologist
My Experience :
I have worked in the NHS since 2007, in that time I have held a variety of roles, supporting individuals and families across the life span. I have been in my current NHS role since 2015 where I am Head of the Psychology department in a small Hospital that cares for adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

I have published a range of scientific papers on mental health and service provision. I am experienced in working with a broad range of mental health difficulties and diagnoses, as well as relationship and personal development issues. I always hold the individual and their personal goals at the heart of our work together.

I offer private sessions for people aged 16 and upwards, including virtual and face to face appointments in Southampton. My specialist areas are personal trauma and attachment and relational difficulties.
The relationships that we have throughout our lives have a profound effect on our wellbeing. We can see the impact of this in a number of ways; e.g. anxiety, low self-esteem, unhelpful relationship patterns, even psychosis and other severe and enduring mental illnesses. I am passionate about the value of the therapeutic relationship in enabling and promoting change and relational work is a core principle throughout my practice.
The Models I work With:
I am trained to work with a range of psychological models and always aim to tailor interventions based on the individual and unique needs of my clients. I appreciate that making the decision to start therapy can be very difficult and anxiety provoking. I am happy to offer a complimentary initial telephone call to support my clients to feel confident that this is the right decision for them and to reduce anxiety by having clear expectations for the therapy.
I work with Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT), Systemic Therapy, and I am an accredited Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT) practitioner.
